I had a chance to go birding with the LA Birders today up in the San Gabriel Mountains, a location on the back side by Big Pines.
It’s not a location I would normally be drawn to, partially because it was 1.75 hours away. But getting up to 7000’+ made the temperatures on the moderate side and the different habitat meant a chance for different birds.
While a lot of them were small and distant, this Western Bluebird wasn’t so shy and gave a nice pose.
I’m up to 251 birds for the year, just past halfway to my goal. With migration starting soon, look to see an excelleration in bird postings. Probably not all 249 I plan to spot between now and December 31, but more.
Don’t worry, I’ll still be posting pretty pictures of non-birds as I have trips to a few more National Parks scheduled, including Hawai’i Volcanoes (fingers crossed Kilauea is erupting when we’re there) and Mammoth Caves.
