Last night I went to a spot overlooking the Santa Monica Pier to film a timelapse and it didn’t go as planned. The overall lesson that I was reminded of was this: Creating Art requires failure and there is not greater freedom in Art than the freedom to fail. Over and over.
This, that and the other thing weren’t quite right and I won’t bore you with the details. The important part of enjoying my time trying to make the video below was realizing every mistakes was an opportunity to learn. And then do better next time.
I got to where I am with the skills I now possess because of tens of thousands of failures along the way. Without that freedom to fail (and the strong desire to learn from my mistakes and do better next time), I’d still be where I was the first day I picked up a 35mm camera 35 years ago last month.
