Known as the Gisele Library, this architectural wonder sits on the campus of the University of California Sand Diego
We got about 2″ of rain here in LA yesterday and I guess this old Desoto from yesterday’s Photo Of The Day isn’t as waterproof as it used to be.
A classic cat like this deserves black and white treatment.
Growing up in Washington, black widow spiders were something exotic from far away lands. Then I moved to California and started finding them in place I did not want. I Continue Reading →
It’s a good song, from Dr. Dre…
Los Angeles has no shortage of interesting back alley scenes. Sometimes they need a little help with composition, but this one, for me, was pretty much perfect when I viewed Continue Reading →
I’m just back from two days attempting to climb Mount Whitney, the tallest peak in the lower 48 United States. It’s an odd distinction, for sure, but it’s also a Continue Reading →
Not from Bishop, but from down the road at Manzanar, in California.
Another photo from the Bishop area after the brighter sunset colors had passed.
Back to Bishop, CA for more wonderful autumn light. A few sprinkles had started by the time the last of the sun was peeking through the western clouds.
This photo is in the category of ‘Most interesting sunset photos happen from parking lots’. Technically this was in a dirt lot next to a parking lot, but the magic Continue Reading →

The Sierra Nevada Mountains are phenomenal for afternoon clouds and light.
This time of year can create dramatic sunsets along Highway 395 in California. It just happens that I was in Bishop yesterday and grabbed this image from the road.
I took these pictures with the intent of sharing them, so now you have to see them. I guess I really liked this stairwell!
The full moon rising over Central California from a flight home. Always grab the left (port) side A seats when heading south to LA.
The nest time I camp at this little set of lakes in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, I’m picking a location close to this spot. Just a little bit of outflow Continue Reading →
Next to a fallen sugar pine tree in Sequoia National Park is this huge sugar pine cone. In the foreground is the cone for the park’s namesake, the Sequoia.
Weathering has taken a toll on this tree. High up the Sierra Nevada mounts, by a hidden lake called Pinto.
A fairly common bird around LA, and lots of places in the US, but it still deserves a spot on the blog.
I think we went off to the right side and then back again to the left? Wayfinding in the High Sierra can be a challenge but often there are cairns, Continue Reading →
A flock of Elegant and Royal Terns takes flight and turns right toward the camera. Taken at Ballona Creek in Los Angeles.
The Alabama Hills are an interesting set of rock formation and mining claims near Lone Pine, California. I have written about them before, here.
Admittedly, these lakes would just be some other cute alpine lakes without the tower Kearsarge Pinnacles looming behind them.
