If you want to get to the top of the Gateway Arch (see view here), then you’ll have to step into the pod.
This is the mechanism that brings you up, up, up 630′ to the top of the Arch for viewing.
It’s unlike any elevator, escalator or funicular you’ve ever been on. They call it a tram but it goes both up and sideways and self-levels while doing so. There’s also a Ferris Wheel aspect. More info here.
Five people are cramped into the pod for a four minute ride to the top (three minuted to get down).
I had serious Mork From Ork vibes while stepping in.
