The picture is only a solitary cardinal but there more, many, many more around.
Living on the West Coast, I hadn’t seen any cardinals of note in my life. I’m sure they were around, after all I found out, thanks to the book The United Tweets of America, many states have the cardinal as their official bird.
But then I got into birding and traveled a few places where they are all over. And like any good birder, I got sick of them after a while. But then loved them again once I flew home.
