Title: What’s In That Slot Canyon?
Location: Al B??inah Region, Oman, Middle East (23°12’33” N 57°23’28” E)
Description: In the Al Hajar Mountains of Oman are a number of slot canyons carved into the ancient rock. This monolith caught my eye not only for the swirl of rock forming the bulk, but for the canyon carved around it. My wife and I had just explored a small slot canyon off the side of the road not 30 minutes before finding this one and my interest was piqued.
What’s down there? Is it navigable? Do I need technical gear (we stopped in the other canyon when the path went down the side of a waterfall with little to use for hand and foot holds)?
The mystery gets me itching to return to Oman and explore more of these desolate mountains.
