Photo Of The Day – The Village Of Dole Sits Below A Bank Of Clouds And Kangtega

Title: The Village Of Dole Sits Below A Bank Of Clouds And Kangtega

Location: Dole, Solukhumbu, Nepal, Asia (27°52’5″ N  86°43’45” E)

Description: The small village of Dole (pronounced dough-lay) is perched along a sloping hill in the Ngozumpa glacier valley. This viewpoint is obtained after about a week of trekking and another day to the North brings trekkers out of the treeline altogether. Clouds often form in the late afternoon and patience rewards the prepared photographer.

The clouds quickly swirled back over the mountain, obscuring the town below at one point. But the winds are constant and waiting a minute or two brings a different view. I have stood at this location four times before and the view has always been absent these beautifully shaping clouds. This is why I tend to prefer bad or changing weather for photography.

The image is a composite of three images shot at different shutter speeds, all with the same aperture, white balance and ISO. It was shot handheld and then combined in Adobe Lightroom with HDRsoft’s 32-bit Merge To TIFF plugin, then natively adjusted in Lightroom. I did some color correction in the foreground to warm it up.
