Title: The View From Basecamp
Location: Above Mende, Solukhumbu, Himalayas, Nepal, Aisa
Description: Back in 2010 I spent a few weeks trying to climb a peak called Kyajo Ri in Nepal. It is not popular; we saw only two other people in our basecamp during two weeks.
Our time was spent acclimating and practicing ice climbing. I’m not a good ice climber and needed all the practice time I could get.
The view from camp was serene. We were in a deep hanging valley that was about 1.5 miles long and flat. At the end you see in the image is a steep 1000′ climb up to the next valley, a long walk before the next headwall, another valley and our Camp I.
While this area is undoubtedly still the same after the recent earthquake, save for a few more boulders on the valley floor, other areas of Nepal remain in need of assistance. Please consider giving to Planeterra’s relief efforts in Nepal.
