Title: Standing In the Light
Location: Lake County, Oregon, USA, North America (43°31’23” N 120°52’21” W)
Description: At the beginning of Derek Cave, an evacuated lava tube in central Oregon, USA, there are a few spots where the ceiling has caved in due to proximity to the ground above. After exploring the cave for an hour (an, oh my, is it ever dark down there) we were returning to the surface when I noticed a light patch on the ground.
I asked my daughter to go stand in the light and then either I or my friend Dan threw some sand in the air (this was seven years ago and my memory isn’t that sharp) to highlight the light beam. I then had my daughter “reach for the sky”.
