Title: Moonrise In the Air
Location: High above Washington State, USA, North America
Description: This one will get some more exposure in another post showing the sequence. This was a new experience for me but I had honestly planned to catch the rising moon on my flight from CA to WA. What I didn’t expect was the serendipitous timing.
I just saw the moon rising about 10 minutes before this image and because of atmospheric conditions, it was a little warped. Then we started our decent. And things got cool.
So the moon is coming up through a layer of clouds over central Washington. But we are heading down. So first the moon rises to almost entirely full above this layer and is nearly symmetrical. But loses ground was we lower our altitude.
And it sets, just after it rises.
Then it comes back up again.
This shot was taken as we headed down and the conditions near the horizon flattened out the moon.

For a while I am going to ask for your assistance in helping those in Nepal rebuild their lives. Average citizens don’t have insurance and I would not trust the inept and corrupt government to help where it is needed most.
I am going to focus on two non-profits I know have ties in the country (read: employees with families who understand where funds can help the most) for my pleas for assistance.
The first is Planeterra, a non-profit run by G Adventures. The second is the Paldorje Sherpa Foundation run by Sherpa Adventure Gear. Both of these charities are run by their parent company, who covers all their overhead so that 100% of donations go to those in need. Both of these companies do the right thing and care for the people of Nepal greatly. Both have funds set up specifically to help quake victims.
Please consider donating today.
