Title: Moon Over Mong La
Location: Mong La, Solukhumbu Region, Nepal, Asia
Description: As a photographer I find it hard to decide to plan a trip to the Himalayas to coincide with a new moon or a full moon. The new moon gives the blackest nights and an excellent viewing of billions of stars all at once.
But during full moons the valleys and peaks never sleep, although there is a serene calm over the land. Here the moon illuminates prayer flags and a Buddhist stupa at the village of Mong La, which is nothing more than the buildings you see in the foreground and three more behind me.
In the distance are (right to left) Thamserku, Kangtega and Ama Dablam on the far left. The image was created using a long shutter time of 30 seconds and then ‘painting’ the prayer flags and stupa with a headlamp.

For a while I am going to post my images of Nepal and ask for you assistance in helping those in the country rebuild their lives. Average citizens don’t have insurance and I would not trust the inept and corrupt government to help where it is needed most.
I am going to focus on two non-profits I know have ties in the country (read: employees with families who understand where funds can help the most) for my pleas for assistance.
The first is Planeterra, a non-profit run by G Adventures. The second is the Paldorje Sherpa Foundation run by Sherpa Adventure Gear. Both of these charities are run by their parent company, who covers all their overhead so that 100% of donations go to those in need. Both of these companies do the right thing and care for the people of Nepal greatly. Both have funds set up specifically to help quake victims.
Please consider donating today.
