Description: The monk debates in Jakar, Bhutan, are a lively spectacle. For our tour group, it was lucky happenstance to be at the monastery the day of the debates as there is no formal schedule. Having a knowledgable guide helps a lot too.
One monk stands and one sits and they debate different sides of Buddhist teachings. Then the roles are reversed. It’s meant to teach detachment and it’s a fun event to experience.
