Carrie came to me also through Travel Blog Exchange, that wonderful juggernaut of great travel writing and photography. After checking out her sight and photos, I thought it best to let <insert Austin Powers Voice> herself introduce, uhhhh, herself. And so, from her site, My Several Worlds:
“World traveler, freelance writer, ESL instructor, photographer, artist, and musician. Carrie Marshall has been bouncing around in Asia for the past six years and currently calls Planet Taiwan her home. In the glittering metropolis of Taipei, surrounded by the cold steel of some of the world’s tallest skyscrapers, lively nightmarkets, binglanxiaojie and more zhen zhus than she’ll ever be able to handle, Marshall has found a new place to call home. This is Asia. These are her worlds and this is her story…” And these will be her pictures!
Undoubtedly, after reviewing the photos for this week, I’ve had to add a number of locations Carrie has visited to my “go there” list. While admitting to only being a beginning photographer, I think you’ll be very pleased with what this week has in store! She has a great eye for composition coupled with some great, exotic locations. And in between posts, take time to catch up on Carrie’s awesome writing and photos at My Several Worlds (RSS Feed), on Twitter and StumbleUpon.
Onward to the Magical Mystical 4 Questions!
1. Explain a bit about who you are and the type of photography that interests you most.
I’m a Canadian expat currently living in Taiwan. I moved to Asia seven years ago, mainly because of a desire to travel, but also because I wanted to experience something different. This has been a journey of self-discovery, and in the process, I’ve come to realize that I’m a person who really wants to experience everything that life has to offer.
My life has changed dramatically since I left home. I’ve traveled across the lands of Asia and uncovered a deep love for it. My husband and I moved to Taiwan in 2006 and we’ve been here ever since. Since our move to Taiwan, I’ve developed a passionate interest in photography, and I started a travel and photography website in 2006 called My Several Worlds to share both of these loves with my family and friends back home. Since then, it has developed into a travel information and photography website. It also features a few literary and artistic works from other expats around the world.
At the moment, I’m pretty undefined as a photographer. Most of my photography is travel related, but I would like to branch out into other areas eventually. I’ve dabbled in a little bit of everything, but I confess that I really don’t know anything about photography. I’m just a beginner. However, I believe I have a decent eye for composition and color, and I try to work with those gifts.
2. If you could have a paid trip for 4 weeks anywhere in the world just to photograph and report back, where would it be?
That’s a hard one. There are so many great places I haven’t been to yet. I’d really like to travel through the Middle East, but I don’t think that journey will be happening anytime soon.
3. Name two of your photography inspirations.
I could run through a bunch of fabulous photographers, but my favorite photographer is Craig Ferguson and he is the one who continues to inspire me the most. Craig’s images never cease to move me, especially his images of Asia, which showcase the diversity and beauty of Asia and her people. His photography is often haunting and at times poignant. Plus, he’s a super-nice guy. Craig offers a number of tutorials for photographers on his website, so if you have the time, you should pop by and take a look at his very sound advice.
4. What do you hope to convey to others through your photography?
I hope to bring a little piece of faraway lands to folks back home that don’t have the time or opportunity to travel. I hope my photography inspires people to dream.
Wow, I came here to read about one of my favorite up-and-coming travel photographers and find that she’s mentioning me. Carrie is producing some great travel-related content lately, and her photography is coming along in leaps and bounds. This feature on her is well-deserved.
Great job, Carrie. The Taiwan digital world is getting smaller and smaller
Indeed she is a brave travel photography who approach her images from different pov.
