Photo Of The Day – California Sea Lions Resting At Isla Los Islotes Before Dawn

Title: California Sea Lions Resting At Isla Los Islotes Before Dawn

Location:  Gulf Of California, Baja California Sur, Mexico, North America (24°35’53” N 110°23’60” W)

Description: California sea lions sit on shore, resting, before the sun hits the horizon. Sometimes called the Belt of Venus, the colorful phenomena in the background is caused when looking away from the sun just before it rises, or just before it sets. Below the dark pink layer is the color of dusk which is actually the Earth’s shadow, or in photographic parlance, the Blue Hour. Above that line is the less filtered direct light from the sun. Posed as they are, the sea lions make nice silhouettes against the Belt.
