Today was one of those chance days. I was driving by Paine Field in Everett and noticed a big 787 painted on the tail fin of a plane. I knew the first flight of the Boeing Dreamliner was supposed to be soon so I pulled off the road and waited as the plane taxied away from me. I waited for about a half hour before a Dreamlifter (the huge plane that brings parts over from Japan) took off with pure thunder pouring out of its engines. But still no 787.
Finally the Dreamliner was on the active runway. As it came toward me I could see it swerving side to side ever so slowly and I knew it wouldn’t be taking off. A truck gave chase and well before the end of the runway the plane reverse thrust and slowed. Shucks. No take off today, but it was cool for me. Once upon a time I wanted to be a commercial airline pilot, so watching this new plane run tests was exciting for me.
