One Of The Highest Airstrips In The World

Description: Way, way up in the Himalayas is an airstrip that is little more than compact dirt these days.

Syangboche Airport sits above Namche Bazaar at 12,402’/3780m and would cause you problems if you flew directly from Kathmandu because of that altitude. In this image a supply helicopter had just dropped off supplies for the village nearby and starts a low take off. Past the end of the runway is a steep drop of hundreds of feet.
