Description: To start with, I just love the One-horned Rhino’s scientific name: Rhinoceros unicornis. Sure, it makes sense from a scientific standpoint, but it also makes the rhino just a little more mythical.
Chitwan National Park was a royal game reserve before it became a National Park in Nepal. It’s likely the protected status the area has enjoyed for decades has helped sustain rhino populations while more plans are underway to help them rebound.
Efforts in and around the park, including anti-poaching patrols and habitat rehabilitation, have lead to a record 750 rhinos being counted in the last rhino-census. That’s the highest count in the last 20 years.
