Libraries Are Still Awesome

Description: Like almost all of us, I admit to growing numb to the amount of knowledge that is out there. Maybe it is the firehoses we all carry on our phones.

Losing touch with what knowledge looks like, or the physical space it takes up, is an odd sensation. You don’t feel it until you are back in a place of many knowledges, like a library, bookstore or some other building with many items.

Here in the LA Central Library, famous for having a fire in 1986 (at the same time as the Chernobyl reactor was melting down) that destroyed over 500,000 works and damaged another 700,000, the sheer size of stories and knowledge meets you face to face.

If you want to learn more about the fire, I suggest The Library Book by Susan Orlean.

In this case, it’s is shelves and shelves of books on CD. Yes, CD.
