If you’re looking for ways to help those affected by the fires in Los Angeles, I have a place for you to start with financial donations.
Charity Navigator has a list of 18 vetted, rated and trusted charities that have people in and around LA already doing work. While we often want to physically help by donating items and giving physical goods or showing up and ‘doing something’, money allows these institutions to use their leverage while obtaining what they need, right now, today.
In short, it takes effort and time to receive a good, like a bunch of canned food or bottles of water, take it in, sort it, and get it to those in need. While money, the organization buys the exact goods they need and are set up to use.
I’m not saying don’t try to find ways to drop off stuff, as the LA Food Bank has been asking for food donations, but the easiest thing to do is to grab a credit or debit card and give. Right now.
Here’s the list: https://www.charitynavigator.org/discover-charities/where-to-give/palisades-fire-2025/
Charities I’ve personally worked with or donated to include the LA Regional Food Bank, Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, American Red Cross, Pasadena Humane Society and CORE. These are my favorites, use them or find your own, but please consider giving today.
Then set a reminder to give next week. Small amounts over time help. Large amounts help. Help helps.
The needs of those affected by the fires won’t be gone next week or next month.
In another post I’ll cover how you can help in person if you live in LA and want to do something. Those needs are going to be on-going for months and years, so I suggest pacing yourself while finding a charity or cause you can regularly volunteer with over the long haul.
Thank you.
