Description: This photo was taken on a Spring Break trip a few years ago when there was just a smattering of snow left on Half Dome, the massive chunk of granite guarding the Yosemite Valley to the East.
The Parks Service puts up safety cable along the walking path up Half Dome in late May and to hike/climb it you need a permit. The window for that permit typically runs during the month of March and you can apply for a permit here. It’s a lottery system, so you’re not guaranteed a permit.
