Guest Photographer – Mathieu Rinfret

MRI like Mathieu’s images for the sharp contrast and natural scenes he presents. And he has shots from places I’ve been. I’m a sucker that way.

1.  Explain a bit about who you are and the type of photography that interests you most.

My name is Mathieu and I live in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Québec, Canada.  I’m a high school teacher and enthusiast photographer.  It all started when I travelled to Costa Rica with my brand new Canon 20D with a kit lens (shooting in automatic…  shhh!).  Since then, my camera has always followed me, bringing back home some nice memories!  I always enjoy discovering new kinds of photography like sports, night photography, studio, bands, family and maternity, but I especially enjoy travelling for landscape photography.  Getting to see new places, to meet new people and to discover gorgeous places with my own lens is what I crave!

2.  If you could have a paid trip for 4 weeks anywhere in the world just to photograph and report back, where would it be?

I dream of spending a month exploring Southern Asia, starting in India all the way to Vietnam, avoiding major cities, exploring the countryside and seeking the beauty of the area.

3.  Name two of your photography inspirations.

The work of other photographers has always brought inspiration, ideas and different perspectives to get me to seek the most interesting composition for a scene.  I have recently started reading blogs and forums and have discovered an ever changing world of new ideas!

Being a wildlife biology major, Nature has always been and will always be the main source of my inspiration.  Nothing ever built compares to what nature has to present, as tiny as a grain of rice or as big as the milky way.  Photography helps me remember the splendor of the most picturesque spots I’ve seen and I always try to convey to others those little things that make those special places what they are!

4.  What do you hope to convey to others through your photography?

I simply want to show people things and landscapes that captured my interest!  It would feel great to know that I inspired people the need to travel and enjoy new places, new people, new colours…  To me, photography is a window to the most gorgeous light there is in the world.  Sharing it is my passion.
