Freaky Looking Sunset Over The Sierra

Description: I don’t fly as much as I used to and this would be one of the things I miss about so many flights: chance encounters with natural beauty.

In this case I was flying between Seattle and Los Angeles when we caught a sunset off the opposite side of the plane. I’m often torn about which side of the plane to choose when I know there is going to be a sunset because the sunset side has the obvious advantage (the sun). But the opposite side, in this case, can be just as beautiful with the coloring in the clouds as the light from the sun is bent and filtered as we soar at 30,000’+.

A variety of purples, pinks and all hues in between cover the mountains of the Sierra as seen from an airliner flying high above clouds with those colors.
