It’s been seven weeks since the wildfires in Altadena destroyed over 10,000 structures.
Unless you live there or close to LA, I doubt you think about it much.
Not so for the people who used to live there (or who still have a home but can’t live in it right now).
While filming footage of the destruction, I was approached by a home owner who lost everything. He asked if I knew what the deal was with getting an OK to start debris removal. There are signs in front of every house and some had an “OK” check mark on them, but he said there is one from the Army Corps of Engineers and another from the county and it’s not clear what on “OK” sign means.
From the air in a limited area, I saw one backhoe cleaning the site of a home and four power company trucks putting up new line.
Rebuilding is a marathon and people there still need your help. I suggest World Central Kitchen and CORE if you feel like making a donation to those affected.
