Title: Archery In Bhutan
Location: Thimphu, Bhutan, Asia
Description: Archery is Bhutan’s national sport. The way you see cricket pitches (did I say that right?) all over the UK or soccer pitches/fields in Europe, archery ranges like this one can be found in every town of Bhutan.
The interesting aspect is, for me, not so much the juxtaposition of old and new (the fiberglass compound bow with the traditional ghe the archer is wearing) but that the whole thing, down to the scoreboard, is as it was. This makes things easier, I suppose. Nothing to break and the target is hard enough to hit; it doesn’t need to be some fancy, new version.
As the field (or maybe it is called a pitch as well) is so long, teammates at the receiving end (standing safely to the side) will perform a short dance and sing a song when a hit has been scored.
I’m excited to be heading to Central America to teach photography in November and December of 2017 in Costa Rica and Panama. One trip is from Costa Rica to Panama, including a transit of the Panama Canal and a number of National Parks and islands, while the other is the same itinerary in reverse.
I’d love to see you on either trip and you can save $200/cabin by using code CH2U117 when booking either of those Costa Rica/Panama itineraries. Click here or email me for more details.
