Description: Hands down Mong La is one of my favorite places to spend the night in the Himalayas.
La translates roughly to ‘pass’, as in mountain pass. In this case the pass is the high point along a longer valley, but it gives commanding views in daylight and dark.
There is a stupa always adorned with prayer flags in the middle of the trail that makes an excellent grounding subject for photos. Throw in a little moon light to light the valley, including (left to right), Ama Dablam, Kangtega and Thamserku in the distance, and you have magic with or without a camera and tripod.
Timing is important at Mong La as the clouds you see below in this photo soon overtook the perfect perch and sends you back to the teahouse for warmth by the fire.
