Guest Photographer Daniel Nahabedian

Daniel’s website deserves a look through, let’s get that out up front. I’m glad I told the guest photographers to pick their own photos because it would have been a taxing task for me to do it with Daniel’s portfolio.  I’m excited to be rolling out some of his work this week as our guest photographer!!  Oh, yeah, and take a look at his About Me page as it has more of his background than my four questions can encompass!

1. Explain a bit about who you are and the type of photography that interests you most.

I’m Daniel, a 30 something travel photographer currently based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I was an HR officer working in Dubai when in 2009 I decided to walk the Camino de Santiago in Spain. The 800km walk brought me answers I was seeking in my life. I left my cubicle job soon after and just celebrated my first year of independence. I love travel and I love photography so I combine both to bring visual stories to people who can’t travel.

2. If you could have a paid trip for 4 weeks anywhere in the world, just to photograph and report back, where would it be and why?

I would choose Iceland. I’ve visited the country in 2008 and fell in love with it. It has so much to offer with some of the most alien landscapes on Earth, nice people and vast areas with not a single soul (except elves and trolls!). And of course not the forget volcanoes and Northern Lights!

3. Name two of your photography inspirations.

There are MANY photographers who inspire me. If I had to choose 2, I’d say:

-Steve Mc Curry, one of the most famous travel photographers who took the iconic photo of the “afghan girl”. He knows how to tell a story through his images.

-Yann Arthus Bertrand, a French photographer, author of the “Earth seen from the sky” photos/videos. He not only takes amazing photos of our planet but also tries to spread awareness on environmental issues.

4. What do you hope to convey to others through your photography?

I always wanted to be a storyteller, like in the old times. My personal mission is to tell visual stories with my images and contribute in making the world an easier place to live by sharing knowledge. I am not into shocking photos of misery and destruction. I’d rather share what I learned about culture and traditions with beautiful images to make people understand the differences and what connects us to every human being.. And of course to our beautiful planet. Contribute and expand the “pie of knowledge”.

I’m glad to feature his work as well. I’ve been really lucky with the caliber of guests so far and it’s always great to see other parts of the world through others’ eyes.
