Gorillapod SLR-Zoom

gpodslrzoom-hanger Aperture Daily had a shot blip the other day about a new Gorillapod designed for those of us with a larger zoom lens.  Joby has some more stats on their site stating it will hold a camera and lens combo up to 6lbs!  As you can see from the picture at left, this works best with lenses that have their own mount.  The units retail for $50 at Amazon and I’m thinking of picking one up for travels this summer.

Does anyone have good or bad experiences with this particular Gorillapod?  I’d love to hear your opinions.

It serves a great role filling the gap between a big tripod and nothing. I can put it in my bag and use it if I really need a stable mount in a pinch.

I think a big bean bag might also serve the same purpose, but I don’t have access to one of those.

I recently had a bunch of people recommending it to me on my facebook page. Warren and Betsy Talbot use it and love it. I’m considering it for the Mongol Rally…might be a good test!
