Goodies To Test In Hawaii

On my recent trip to Mexico I was lucky enough to receive an underwater housing for my camera, lent to me from for the purpose of testing and reviewing.  It’s one part of my writing work that I enjoy; playing with gear that is new to me and then reporting on what I find.

On my next trip to Hawaii in a mere eight days I’ll be towing along some extra gear as well.  Most of the reviews will end up on Digital Photography School, where I am a regular contributor.  I also plan to drop a link here on The Carey Adventure.Com to let you know about the cool photo gear.  On this trip to Hawaii, I plan to bring along:

  • -  I have been on a quest for quite some time to find the perfect travel photo/computer/office bag.  I want it to hold my camera with large lens attached, laptop, books, notepads, headphones and other travel items.  It must fit under a plane seat as it’s my ‘personal item’.  I currently use a but it’s not really meant for a camera.  Mind you, two DSLRs with lenses will fit in it, but it’s a pain to pull them out.  Fingers crossed that the Fastpack 350 can handle my demands.  And keep the sand out. The bag is on loan from LowePro.
  • Giga Pan EPIC Pro Robot – I know, it sounds futuristic.  What it really is is a mount for a tripod (note: pack heavy tripod!) that will allow HUGE panoramas to be shot thanks to it’s roboticiness. You’ve seen those panoramas where you can zoom way in, like this one? That’s what the robot helps create.  I’m very excited to give it a whirl and learn the ins and outs, and I hope to bring back some wonderous panos!  BorrowLenses.com is also lending me this unit which they, of course, rent.
  • iGotU-600 GPS Tracker – I’m not sure if this will arrive in time, but it’ll be cool if it does.  It’s a small GPS tracking device that will allow me to easily geotag my photos.  Which means I’ll know exactly where they were taken.  Just like a digital breadcrumb and note taker all in one!  If it works as well as advertised.  Hope it makes it here!

So far that’s the list.  If anyone has a contact at any company that makes underwater cameras, even the point and shoot, I’d be interested in trying them out on this trip. Email me.  Tropical waters, lots of fishys and coral.  It’s just about time to pack!!
