Description: Remember those nice, nearly pristine sand dunes I posted just a bit ago?
During the winter (and a bit during the blazing 110°F temps in the summer) they are a magnet for all kinds of off-highway vehicles. I mention dune buggies in the title, but there are plenty of motorcycles, ATVs and other 4-wheel vehicles that clamber over these dunes.
While I’d love to keep the dunes pristine, I realize driving these OHVs is a lot of fun. The wind will wipe away their track in short order and there is a Algodones Dunes Wilderness just to the North of this photo that is off-limits to all motorized traffic. It’s a good balance.
It was also nice to see they stopped around sunset and the din of motors faded as everyone enjoyed a classic desert sunset.
More images of the dunes without the tracks can be found here and here and here.
