A Good Day Traveling

One van, one plane, four trains then a car ride and we’re hanging out at Cari and Richard’s. It’s been a great travel day with a normal dose of confusion, some walking and lots of miles.

Not much to report on the plane side of things, other than it was bumpy leaving Seattle because of storms and bumpy coming into Philadelphia for no good reason. We got a great view of the city as we came in and saw where we’ll be staying. Sabrina was great on the flight and now has enough frequent flyer miles to get a free ticket to Europe or South America.

After a SEPTA train and an Amtrak train to Newark, New Jersey, we had a bit of confusion and ended up spending $3 we didn’t have to spend at the station, thinking we were hurrying to catch the train on the other platform when it wasn’t what we wanted at all. A nice conductor helped us out and made sure we made it on the right train out of Newark but had a bit of a time figuring out what to charge us since we weren’t taking his train past Secaucus. By now Sabrina was looking around and reading every sign she could spot. It’s great to see here eager to learn and trys out really hard words now.

At Secaucus we had a bit of time and got to check out the beautiful sculpture in the middle of the station. The station was very impressive and clean and we had a few minutes to relax before our last train to Westwood.

Finally back at Cari and Richard’s (and Catalina’s too!!) we relaxed and chatted for a good long while before turning in much too late. But it’s hard to get on the East coast schedule right away sometimes!

Relaxing in New Jersey

I guess I haven’t been entering in as many posts this trip. Mainly because the days have been fairly busy with work until now. Or sleeping. Or watching cable TV. The work went well and we got it mostly wrapped up by 4pm on Saturday.

I then took the 167X out to Harrington Park and Cari and Richard’s house. It’s nice having a house a block from the bus station. :-) We watched The Legend of Zorro on the big screen in the basement. Good action flick.

Today we got up fairly late and I read some more of the book Alone which I started on the flight out and am now about 200 pages into out of 300. It’s a narative of Robert Byrd and his time at a camp, if it can be called that, at 80 degrees South in Antarctica for a winter. I’ll probably have it done by the time I come home unless I fall alseep on the flight home.

Cari’s making chocolates now and Richard is cooking dinner. And I’m using their computer rather than visiting. ;-)

We stayed up until 2 last ngiht watching the 40 Year Old Virgin which was simple and funny. About what you’d expect from a movie with than name. Sabrina fell asleep by herself on one of the couches soon after our late dinner.

Last night there was some freezing rain and then some snow on top, just a dusting is around this morning. It looks like just rain today which is good for getting to the airport. A van is picking us all up at 3:10pm and our flight is at 5:50 getting in around 9:06pm.

Kim and Cari are thinking of going to tea today but we’ll see. We don’t have a lot of time before we have to get going.

Cari’s Wedding Day

We’re a little slow in getting up this morning. Cari is already off doing stuff and Sabrina is entertaining herself while Kim and I slowly get to waking up. It’s a little overcast and might rain a bit, but still looks to be a good day!

In New Jersey

It’s the actual day of Cari and Richard’s wedding and we are still running around the house getting things set up. Sabrina just went to bed, sorta. She’s a bit tired with only a short late nap.

The flight out was nice with some bumps over the Great Lakes area, or maybe it was the Great Plains. It was a Great something in the middle of the country any way. Sabrina watched two movies, which reminds me that we need to charge the DVD player. Other than that we colored and such.

There wasn’t much line at security and I had the honor of having my camera bag swabbed down but we were soon on our way to the terminal. It wasn’t a full load and we made great time, around 4:15 in flight which meant a heck of a tail wind. Took off around 8:45-50am PT and landed around 4:30pm ET, or something like that. I wasn’t watching it too closely. Kinda spoiled us for the flight back though.

I’ll see if I can’t get some photos uploaded tonight.
Things are going well all in all and Cari is not freaking out yet. Richard is staying in the city and they’ll see each other at the church tomorrow. My job starts around 9:30 or so or maybe it was 12:30 with dress and ring and getting ready shots. Then over to the church a couple blocks away for some rehersal and getting ready. Around 4pm is when it all starts.

And back to the airport

We’re back at the airport at the Ramada just off 170th, by the graveyard (got plenty of garlic, don’t worry). It’s actually a nice Ramada and the pool isn’t a bad color like our last trip. They also have Park & Fly for $7/day which is a lot better than the $20/day at the terminal. We’ll see if it’s as convenient as the $10/day Master Park.

We’ve eaten dinner and Sabrina’s now taking a bath and seems quite tired. Kim is packing and repacking things to try to get our number of bags down. We’ve got three carry-ons (two clothes and one camera bag) and just about have one ‘personal item’ which would be heaven to me. I think it’ll work.

For this trip I’m going to be taking pictures at Cari and Richard’s wedding on Saturday followed by two days of bumming around. It should be fun. We’re thinking of heading into the city to Central Park so Sabrina can see Balto’s Statue and maybe see the Statue of Liberty or the New York Zoo.
