Photo Of The Day – Jagged Himalayas At Sunrise

Jagged Himalayas At Sunrise, Nepal

Title: Jagged Himalayas At Sunrise

Location: Machermo, Solukhumbu, Nepal (27°54’6″ N   86°42’59” E)

Description: When the monsoons have moved on and the days are shortening, few views in the world beat the crystal clarity of the Himalayas at sunrise. This photo was taken on a ridge just before entering the town of Machermo at an altitude of 14,444′ (4402m). As it were, this ridge not only afforded spellbinding panoramic views of the peaks in every cardinal direction, it is also the last point where cell phone reception can be obtained (with some patience and wandering).

The image is a High Dynamic Range composite of three images shot at different shutter speeds in order to capture the light as I saw it. This technique is very valuable with current model cameras (except for the high-end gear costing over $4000) as it allows for more photo information to be captured. I then used the Merge to 32-bit HDR Plugin for Lightroom by HDRsoft (http://www.hdrsoft.com/download/merge_lrplugin.html) which allows for native Lightroom handling of the resulting image file and its wealth of exposure information.
