Summer in the Northern Hemisphere is almost upon us and for many of you out there I know that means travel plans. Planes, trains, automobiles, boats, horses, ATVs…getting out of the home and going some place new, or familiar, is an annual endeavor for many. As you are reading this site, chances are you’re going to bring a camera along.
With summer travels in mind, the vacation/holiday kind, I am curious just how much gear you take with you. To set the scene; for those with families or are part of a couple, this trip is meant for you all to enjoy. For those traveling solo, it can be a short getaway or maybe something longer, months longer. Destinations are not important but include them in the comments below if you like. Mind you, this isn’t ‘for work’ travel, just the fun stuff.
To that end, I have two questions for you out of sheer curiosity of what others bring on their vacations.
I will be tabulating the results in a future post. Have fun and don’t forget the sunscreen!

I’m not at all concerned about carrying gear. That is, perhaps, why I’m so into bags…if it’s easy to carry, I am interested. But back to the gear on vacation. Vacation is a time where you relax and recover from the other trials and tribulations of life. To that end, photography is such a part of my life, I wouldn’t dream of going on vacation without considering shooting opportunities. Photography is the way that I relax. And so, I don’t want to lessen my experience with a camera that won’t let me do what I want. To that end…I go with the same camera I always shoot – my DSLR with 2 (or 3) lenses. What will change…I might leave the flash or the other accessories at home. But I want my vacation to be as worry free as shooting at home.
Note, I didn’t say anything about quality. What I’m saying is that I take the camera that I am most comfortable with.
G12, trek tech II, and a remote shutter for me this year. This G12 is amazing and has in camera HDR.
