With the weather approaching perfection in Seattle (i.e. it’s sunny) this week’s topic for your weekend photography challenge is SUNSHINE. This doesn’t mean you actually have to take a photo of the sun, although you are welcome to. Think of what sunshine means to you and incorporate that in a photo. This week the technique to use is
This can mean bumping things up when you want to bring out details in the shadows. Or it can mean darkening the bright glare your camera is not compensating for. Play around and have fun.
As always, photos are due in by the time I nod off on Monday. Just leave a comment with a link to your shot(s). Have fun!!

It’s a long weekend in Canada and rumour has it, it will rain. So, here’s my quick moment in the sunshine – lilac bush, first day in bloom. Exposure bias of +1.0 to brighten the lilacs but keep the sky still somewhat blue.

That certainly captures the sun!
Nothing but rain here in Cornwall:( maybe tomorrow!
What about today?
I think my above link is asking people to log into Picasa first before they can see my picture. Not sure how linking and embedding works, so here’s another try:

This is an Oyster Dredger on Willapa Bay, and the sun came out briefly! Then it poured rain!

Karin,
I really like the final effect of this photo and the harshness of it.
I really like this shot. Were these the actual colors at the time?
Lots of clouds to go with the sunshine. I tried out a circular polarizer and different exposure compensations. I got some blown out and dark ones and liked the camera’s choice the best.

Jeanne, You’ll need to point the camera further away from the sun to get the full use of the polarizer. It works best when aimed 90 degrees to a lightsource.
Thought of the photosynthesis when taking this shot!

Thomas, the site gave me a crash error. :(
It’s back up! Great color contrast. They kind of look like frog toes.
Taken at a wedding this week-end and hope it goes with the challenge theme!

Robbin, A different angle on the subject. Stained glass surely doesn’t work so well without sunshine.
Does this count? http://peterkingsbury.com/wp-content/uploads/dam_902x600.jpg
I used three bracketed images and Photomatix to get the final result.
Close! :) Ok, there’s sunshine. My secret motive was that it has been so gray around here lately I was looking for bright sunshine. Of course, the topic is always open to interpretation.
Late entry! http://www.flickr.com/photos/jmontague/5753236325/in/set-72157626792755158/lightbox/
Though this photo wasn’t inspired by the sun, it certainly made for a nice effect. Was testing out a lens I”m considering buying (17-55 mm). Details: 1/200 s, f/7.1, Exp Comp: 0, ISO 100, 17 mm.
Nice work Josh and it’s freaky looking.
@Peter Carey
The photo should now be back up.

Cheers, and keep up the good work!
Thomas, that shot has some really pleasing colors in it. Nice job balancing the exposure and use negative space.
