Turkey, France, Holland, Hawaii, Colorado…..this week’s Guest Photographer is all over the place! Debra Jennings admits to shooting most of her photos while traveling, but as you’ll see this week, she still takes the time to show of some of the best Colorado has to offer.
Before we get to the grand four questions, her website, eXpress Travel Photography can be found here. Please take a moment to check it out as she has WAY more than the seven photos I will be featuring this week. And if you want to catch up with her on Twitter, she’s @eXpresstravel there too.
Now then!
1. Explain a bit about who you are and the type of photography that interests you most.
I’m a freelance writer who dabbles in photography. I love to travel, with my husband of 13 years, and honestly that’s about the only time I take photos. I look for really scenic shots, and things you wouldn’t see “back home.” Also, I live near Boulder, Colorado so whenever we go hiking I usually take the camera. My three favorite subjects are nature, architecture and bicycles.
2. If you could have a paid trip for 4 weeks anywhere in the world, just to photograph and report back, where would it be and why?
I’d have to say Egypt. I’ve always had a fascination with ancient Egypt and all the architectural relics that remain standing. I’d love to photograph some of the lesser known ruins, as well as try to discover interesting takes on the more famous ones. It’s probably a great place to experiment with sunlight, which I love to do, and also macro shots. I imagine in four weeks I could cover a lot of ground, and even have time to photograph modern structures in the cities and countryside. That would be wonderful!
3. Name two of your photography inspirations.
I make a point of searching out interesting and talented photographers on Twitter. I’ve found so many it would be hard to name them all! They definitely inspire me. Also, my father-in-law who is just a normal guy who likes to take scenic photos, and he takes some really good ones. I don’t think I’ll ever be a professional photographer, but at least I can emulate his success. Oh, and whomever invented the digital camera is my hero! I love being able to take as many shots of the same subject as I want, and then choose the best. I never allowed myself to do that with film.
4. What do you hope to convey to others through your photography?
I hope to give people a sense of the place that I’m shooting. Whether they like to travel or they just do it from an armchair, I hope they find my photos interesting, and I hope it compels them to get out in the world and explore – even if it’s in their own backyard.
