Mexico 2009 Day 4 – It’s HOT!!

IMG_6078 Today was a real late day.  Sabrina and I were about ready to go around noon or so.  The plan was to taxi down to the Mercado and do some souvenir shopping then head to the beach to pick up some fish for dinner.  But on the way to the Mercado Sabrina nearly melted.  It is indeed hot today and it’s a bit hard for her at times.  Like this afternoon.  My guess is it’s over 90F.

IMG_0187The first thing she bought was a fan.  And a brackets.  She does really well with not getting suckered in with people putting things in front of her.  She’s always been a great kid to go shopping with because she will tend to look at most everything, but always put stuff back the way she found it and not whine that she wants this and that.  It’s now paying off as she can look at one vendors array of colorful bracelets and just shake her head (still working on getting her to say, “no gracias”).   She bought a doll for herself as well and purse for Lily.  Man was it hot in those stalls, especially when we went back in out of the street.  She kept complaining to me to stop dripping on her when I bent down to tie something.  Yeah, I’m sweaty like that.

IMG_0191Eventually we hit the beach and stopped at the Fat Mermaid for lunch.  Then ensued an plethora of questions like, “why don’t the mermaid have tops on?” <insert adult answer here, which is never good enough> “But why does The Little Mermaid have a top on.” <parent rolls eyes and points out the odd looking bug as a distraction>.

By now, sitting under a  speedy fan and getting some shrimp in her belly, Sabrina was cheering up.  We walked the pier I’ll visit in a few days to go diving and then walked IMG_0196 along the beach in 90+ heat until we decided to take a cab.  Sabrina found a lot of seaglass and if you ever want any, just come on down, it’s all over, along with some other junk, a lot of it plastic. :(  There was a kid and man making an attempt at cleaning the beach.  The beach has a large fishing fleet with nearly identical boats lined up shaded by the palm trees.

IMG_5996 Back at the condo it’s time for the pool and then dinner (ok, I watched a bit of The Scorpion King too).  This time the Cronins came over and we had a traditional Mexican meal of spaghetti.  And left overs from the night before.  (pssst…be looking soon on Help Peter Cook.Com for Dan’s secret recipe for pico de guillo, kinda live from Mexico!).

Then we sat outside and watched as some thunderous lightning storms swept in from the South and got within 5 miles or so of land before heading back out to see.  The light show lasted for over an hour and was awesome entertainment for all of us.  Here’s the rest of the day in pictures!
