I’m not sure how I first discovered Makalu Wear but I do know it was back in February. I really liked their combination of products: organic shirts with proceeds helping Room To Read to build schools in Nepal. I wrote the owner and he wrote back, pretty cool for a business these days.
I just wandered over to their store to see what’s new and found they have a wonderful Buy One, Give One program. Buy any organic t-shirt from Makalu Wear and they’ll donate a fleece hoody or pair of shoes (your choice) to a child in rural Nepal at the end of the calendar year.

This is a good reminder that businesses have a responsibility to incorporate giving back into their strategy. I’m a small business owner myself, and it’s due time for me to look at areas beyond the bottom line where I can make a difference. I will check out Makalu’s model – thanks for the insight!
