We got a set of William Sonoma plates everyday-ware for our wedding and first anniversary about 9 years ago. We had nearly a whole set of plates, both dinner and side plates. And they have served us well, until…..
3 months ago the first dinner plate developed a crack and eventually broke. “No problem,” I thought, “I’ll glue it back together and we can use it for a plant or something else.” And thus, it because a garden plate. But it didn’t stop there, we have since had three more dinner plates and one more side plate crack and two others show signs of cracks. I just don’t get it. They are all dying at the same time, more or less. The mugs are standing up ok, but the plates are going to pot. It’s always a crack from the inside to the edge. Weird.
Our plan now, with our intentions on traveling abroad for a year or more next year, is to buy plates cheap at the thrift store and not care if they match. It’s not like we need a lot of matching plates except for when guests come over. So when you come over now, expect that you will likely have a “unique” plate much like those fancy restaurants with the individualized, hand painted plates.
