Want To Follow Along On A Himalayan Trek?

SPOT As some of you may or may not know, Kim and I are heading to Nepal for a 19 day trek through the Himalayas in the Khumbu (Everest) Region.  I have purchased a SPOT Satellite Messenger in hopes that it will work well enough to help our daughter know where we are while she remains at home.  Looking at the maps at findmespot.com shows Nepal is in the fringe of the useful area, so it may or may not work all the time.  But it’s worth the shot.

With that in mind, I was wondering if any of you out there who subscribe to this page would be interested in following along with updated emails.  Nepal is 12 hours and 45 minutes ahead of the West Coast so you won’t be getting a lot of real time updates as you’ll hopefully be sleeping while we trek (although we’ll start moving most days around 8:30am).  You’ll also get access to a shared webpage showing updated information for the last 7 days.

The unit will send out a track point every 10 minutes if it can get a signal out.  For the most part, the sky will be open enough but some of the valleys may be too steep to get a view of the sky.  What I’m saying here is it could be fun or a complete flop.  If it gets too annoying to keep the unit running then I’ll simple shut it off and pack it away.

So please use the link at the bottom of this post to email me if you’d like to be added to the list.
