I’ve decided to scrap Google Ads on this and our other sites. In the next week they will all be removed. While the money grubbing guy in me likes to think they will just reap tons and tons of cash, I came to not like them. They are uninspiring and kinda droll. In general I’ve been experimenting with different ads. I like the Expedia one on our main page that lets you pick flights and such. I think that actually adds some utility to the site. The only other ad I post right now is the REI link on the left. I like REI and yes, it’s a paid ad (if you click and buy something, I get a cut). I’ll also still include links to some Amazon items in posts here and there, but I never plan on this blog being a stream of income. If it ends up covering the expense of the site, I’ll be happy.
