I like techy things. It’s true. If I can use technology to do something a ‘normal’ person would do without, I’ll pick the technology route. Sometimes this backfires but sometimes it really helps.
Today’s techy techness that I’m liking more and more is mycyclinglog.com. It’s a website set up to track training or performance in cycling. I first got interested in in the website through Facebook where they had a application that is supposed to report your stats within Facebook. While the link into Facebook can use a fair amount of help, the stand alone website has proved beneficial to me. I, personally, like to see all kinds of stats. If you’re not a stats person you probably won’t find it interesting.
Basically you enter all kinds of information from your cycling computer (or GPS if you use one on rides) including distance, location, bike used, heart rate, etc… and the site will track, tally and report all kinds of information. I had previously been interested in a $300 computer program to do nearly the same thing, but this application lets me do that for free, plus I can use the RSS feed it offers to report information on this or other blogs or anywhere on the internet if I so decided. It’s actually helping keep me motivated because I can just enter some simple stats and see results (ok, so FEELING those results in increased health is good too :) )and track progress. I like logs and historical data for some reason so this application really feeds me needs.
Give it a try if you’re into cycling and want something free and simple to track your progress. While it’s not as slick as GPS bike mounted unit that will automatically input data, it is a LOT cheaper. Below you will find a cut and paste of their code which is live data of what I’ve ridden so far to get in shape for the MS 150. And my public profile can be found here.
