Washington State Ferries has begun selling advertising, larger advertising, on boats in its system. I first noticed this on Monday when I spotted the ad picture to the left. It was onboard the Kittitas on the Mukilteo/Clinton run. I saw two ads in all for Lufthansa on opposite sides of a bulkhead.
Meanwhile the Seattle Times ran an article yesterday explaining the ads. While it’s an obvious attempt at bringing in more revenue for the ferry system, the state they will not offer up the naming of ferries. Thank heavens. They also state they want to start small and not bombard people with ads, which I am thankful for. Having ridden the ferries nearly every day for 3 years, the ads were obvious and a bit large. I liked the art that hung there before, but I guess art doesn’t pay the bills sometimes.
