Since I last reported on local biodiesel prices on Whidbey Island, WA, things have finally dropped a bit. It amazes me how much larger the swings are with biodiesel, but I guess that’s because most stations change prices when the shipment shows up, unlike "regular" fuel where the price is controlled by the home office daily.
For the past 2 months or more the price has been pegged at $5.30 at the local Exxon for B20 (20% biodiesel, 80% ULSD) from Whole Energy. This has been on average $.60 more than regular #2 diesel sold by Exxon at the same station. Today as I once again filled up the Suburban, I noted the price was now $5.16 (actually $5.159……which always makes me ask, who else actually charges nine tenths of a cent for ANYTHING???). This means I’ll have to back off my dream of spending more than $200 at the pump to fill the truck. At least for a while, prices can always rise any time demand goes up, artificially or otherwise. If I could find a decent supply of feedstock, I’m seriously thinking of cooking my own.
These prices are up $.86 from my first post about B20 prices.
But for now it’ll have to wait until I "have more time". :)
