Kiva in Action

kiva As noted in a previous post, I made a few loans through Kiva.org.  The past two days have seen three emails come through from the organization in Cambodia where three of the loans were made.  All three mentioned the fund had been dispersed to the borrowers.  That’s 2 days after the loans were made.  Impressive!

The site is simple and well laid out.  On the account page you can view all your loans including term of the loan, amount repaid and over all status.  There is also information about the person or group ou have loaned to as well as stats for the average Kiva user if you’re into comparing yourself to the masses).  According to the stats, the average Kiva donator sees a delinquency rate of 3.67% and a default rate of 1.46%.  Many of the people looking for loans currently on the site are taking out their third or fourth loan.

So far, so good!
