I’m lazy at times, even when it comes to one of the coolest rights we have in this country (unless you’ve been convicted of a felony), the right to vote. We moved a bit in the past 3 years and I’ve never gotten around to registering to vote, despite Kim actually bringing home a voter registration form. I know, that’s super lazy. But then by chance I stumbled upon the Secretary of State’s site and a link to registering to vote!
Not only am I lazy at times, I’m just the opposite if technology is involved. Take for instance calling people. I’m not a big fan of calling people so, ummm….I don’t, unless I have a specific reason. But then my friend Sheri forced me into using Skype. Skype is a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) service that lets you talk with other people on Skype, through your computer, for free. You can also call landlines or cell phones for a fee, but it’s pretty cheap, $3 per month. And you can now buy handsets which don’t require use of your computer. She told me I had to use it and she’s mean that way and I’m a sucker for technology. It works pretty well and now I’ve even talked to our friend Debbie in Libya a couple times. In the past 10 years I’ve called Debbie maybe 3-5 times. And even then, I probably wanted money. But now, because some cool technology thing is involved, I’ve called her twice in two weeks!
So I’m lazy unless technology is involved and such is the case with registering to vote. If you have a driver’s license in Washington State, you can register to vote online and even check the box for "please send me absentee ballots until the end of time so I can continue to be lazy". Until they allow us to vote online, that’s the laziest I can be when it comes to exercising a right many people in this world fight to obtain.
