6pm 11/27
This will be our last full posting from the road (probably do a few short ones from the phone when we leave in the morning).
We just went and played on the beach for a bit but it sure was cooooolllddd. The sunset was spactacular and there are some photos in this album. Missing from that album are pictures from Cape Perpetua but those will be included in the full album which will be linked off of The Carey Adventures main page under Journeys and then under California & Oregon. It’ll take me a while to get all the photos up there….maybe a week or two.
Right now we are all having some relaxing time by ourselves, as much as you can in a yurt, which is actually quite a bit. I like this campground a lot more as it’s quiter and because it is Sunday night, less crowded. It’s a huge area and could be horridly packed in the summer. The beach is huge as well and just sand with a dune between it and our campground. I have a picture of it looking down from the cliffs of Oswald West State Park located here. It’s that sandy part just to the right of the cliff. That cliff is in the pictures as taken from the beach as well, on this site.
I have a few ‘wishes’ for this trip but not really many. They are the normal things; I wish we had more time to explore. I wish we could stay in one spot longer. I wish Disneyland was deserted. Other than that, I’ve been really happy on this trip. We’ve had a few meltdowns (both of the Sabrina variety [including a full fledged Disney-meltdown at the hotel that the Fains got to witness] and the family variety) but they were far inbetween and triggered by the normal avoidable things; not enough sleep, food or water. If we took care of the simple needs everything else was easy. Sabrina is still a great roadtrip companion and Kim too. I haven’t added up all the hours in the car this trip but it’ll be in excess of 48 or more probably. Disney was the only time we weren’t in a car.
Next time we’ll probably choose to fly down. Unless we can find a huge chunk of time, like a month, so that we can enjoy the coast more. Maybe even get to see some of the other California National Parks. I liked staying in the hostel and the place we had in Disneyland and for the price I’d do those again. The yurts are great too. Redding was, well, Redding. San Fran had a pretty nice place and they even cooked for you. :-)
You’ll notice some of the pictures will be out of order and some aren’t even there. But when you’re trying to juggle uploading pictures on a really slow link, making dinner and entertaining a 4 year old, you don’t always have time to make things perfect. It was fun for me to send the updates and take a look at the days photos. My laptop doesn’t have the best screen in the world so true editing and posting of the photos (especailly the scenic ones) will have to wait until I get home. But all in all, I liked the capabilities of all the equipment and feel it was worth the while. If nothing else, this site and the Pages section are to serve our own purpose of better documenting our travels both from a journalling/historical perspective and for a reference for later. To that end I’m going to slowly update the Pages section with useful things we’ve found on this and other trips. If you have any tips or places to stay at, pass them along and I’ll add them to the pages for future reference.
That’s about it for now. I hope you have enjoyed our trip as much as we have. Ok, so you probably didn’t, but thanks for checking in and until next time…
ONWARD!

Note, Oswald West State Park in Oregon is named after one of their governors, who is a distant relative of ours on our Mom’s father (West) side.
hi
thanks for keeping me in the loop/i frankly didnt understand how to “comment” and was concerned that i might mess up your fantastic site..I’ll try again..what a record and what a lot of fun , as i said b4, sitting at my computer in south georgia and reading about your trip/sure remember the areas you went to but not the neat experiences you had..sabrina sounds like a joy too to have on a trip.too many parents won’t invest the time that you two have done for her..by osmosis i think the young kids pick up the view of “this wide and beautiful world”congrats..y’all done well.heheh.are you going to type up a “sabina trip comment”??might be fun for her to read later on..peter,your dad and family toured the east coast and south i the late 40′s and early 50′s and i remember one lonng stretch that he stood up(brand new 49 oldsmobile 98 that we picked up from the factory in lansing, MI)and sang “bell bottom trousers, coats of navy blue”..problem was that’s all he knew and he sang it over and over..he would have been about 8..no chair seats for kids then..we 4 just bellowed, “mom, he’s touching me” as we sat with our perspiring thighs stuck to each other in the crowded car from seattle to new york etc..those trips were 3 months in a car and even now over 50 years later, they are remembered..sooooo the moral of aunt judy’s loooooog comment is, by writing it down, you’ll never forget it..congrats on taking the time to do so….and thanks again for keeping me in the loop..your pictues are actually inspiring..thanks and thanks for reading this..
